Voluntary Visitors

The home visiting service has been set up to provide visitors/enablers for vision-impaired people throughout Northumberland.

Potential clients do not need to be registered blind or partially sighted. Referrals are accepted from Social Services, Health Services, family or friends.

Clients will be visited to assess their individual needs. A client with several social outlets, ie., regular day care and contact with family and friends, will be given lower priority than those who have little social contact other than 'official visits', ie., doctor, social worker etc.

We have a wonderfully loyal network of volunteers who can offer support to blind and partially sighted people by visiting them at home. Volunteers help to maintain leisure interests, choose talking books, escort to shops, read mail or just have a cup of tea and a chat. All our volunteers receive training prior to carrying out home visits.

We are always looking for volunteers to support us, as volunteers are not always available in certain areas due to the wide area we cover.
